III Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Warming-up
1. Daily greeting.
2. Enjoy two version of an English song Pretty Boy. Let students to choose their favorite one and state the reasons, then lead in today’s topic—liaison.
Step 2: Presentation
1. Show the three sentences on the blackboard and let students read by themselves.
2. Invite some students to read out and introduce the rule of liaison. We usually link the final consonant of the former word with the initial vowel of the following word, connecting together.
①I’ll call you in an instant.
②John is a friend of mine.
③I’m an actor.
3. Add some tips when we read with liaison.
a. Don’t speak faster.
b. Stress the content word.
c. Don’t link between thought groups.
Step 3: Practice
1. Ask students to underline the link parts with the learnt rule in the passage and add some if missed:
“Fu mingxia said when I was nine years old start to Beijing to attend the diving training, hard training is the foundation of success. Every time I stand on the podium in sweat behind the precipitation of honor.”
2. Listen to the tape of this passage, and ask students to imitate, pay attention to the liaison parts, and invite some to read in front of the class.
Step 4: Production

And b belongs to the rule when the pronunciation of a word ends with a consonant, the following word begins with the same consonant;
c belongs to the rule when the pronunciation of a word ends with a vowel, the following word also begins with a vowel.
Step 5: Summary & Homework
Ask students to review what they learnt today.
Homework: Learn to sing the song Pretty Boy and search more knowledge about liaison.
