Teaching procedures:
Step 1 Lead-in (3 mins)
Greet students and show some pictures about some cultural relics, such as Taj Mahal, Mogan Caves and Yuanmingyuan, and ask students guess the names of them and how much students know them, in this way, can lead today’s topic “cultural relics”.
(Justification: these pictures are closely related to today’s topic, so that teachers can lead in this lesson naturally and can arose students’ curiosity.)
Step 2 Pre-listening (5 mins)
Have a free talk about cultural relics in their hometown, and then invite some students to share their answers.
(Justification: students can know the cultural relics in their hometown, and arouse their love for their hoe town, thus laying a good foundation for the further listening.)
Step 3 While-listening (15 mins)
1.Global listening (5 mins)
Listen to the passage for the first time, and answer the following questions:
(1) What the main idea of this listening material?
(2) Where is Feng’s hometown?
(Justification: students’ listening ability can be trained by the first listening, and have a primary understanding of this passage.)
2. Detailed listening (10 mins)
Listen to the tape again and answer the following questions:
(1) What is the one of biggest project?
(2) What did Feng do in another project?
(3) When did the land in the centre of the city was first built?
(Justification: these questions can help students to understand this passage much better. This activity can also develop students’ listening skills to grasp the detailed information.)
Step 4 Post-listening (15 mins)
Have a discussion in groups about how to protect the cultural relics in your hometown.
(Justification: this activity can help students form critical thinking and improving their speaking ability , and also arouse their love for their hometown.)
Step 5 Summary and homework (2 mins)
Summary: Invite one student to summarize what we have learned today.
Homework: Search some information on the Internet about Yuanmingyuan.
